Game 4 of the NBA Finals was full of fun, intensity, and basketball awesomeness in the AT&T Center in San Antonio. The same could not be said for some Miami Heat fans at a sports bar back in South Beach.
An outdoor deck at a Miami sports bar collapsed Thursday night, sending dozens of fans into the waters of Biscayne Bay. The people were watching the televised Game 4 of the NBA Finals between their home team the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs.
About 100 people were on the outdoor deck at Shuckers Bar and Grill in North Bay Village when the structure gave out, falling into the shallow water along with all the Heat fans, says Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue spokesperson Lt. Eugene Germain.
Miami-Dade Fire officials reported two people were in seriously hurt and 24 others were rushed to local hospitals. Some people were pulled off from the water underneath the deck says Germain.
“We have located and we’re in the process of treating approximately 24 victims. The other individuals involved are what we call walking-wounded individuals that are stable,” he said.
Rescuers say everyone has been accounted for but divers and choppers worked the scene after the collapse to make sure there were no additional victims.
The incident happened around 9:20 pm local time, as restaurant patrons were watching the Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Spurs and the Heat. Witnesses say the outdoor deck collapsed after the Heat fans jumped after their team scored a basket.
